Membership FAQ's
What is the process to become a member?
A preliminary phone screening is conducted to ensure the interested person meets the basic eligibility qualifications. Qualifications include: Town of Barnstable residency; living independently in a home, condo, or apartment; age 60 and above; and the services needed by the interested person are those that BN2N provides.
An in-home visit is conducted by a membership committee member. The purpose of the visit is to clarify and understand the services an interested person may need or expect from a BN2N membership. We also assess to determine if BN2N is able to provide those services to the applying person. BN2N has the final right of acceptance or refusal of any applying person.
The entire process may take several months as we frequently have more interested people than membership openings. If you are interested in becoming a member, it is suggested you call 508.418.9220 for a preliminary phone screening.
Do members have to reside in the Town of Barnstable to become a member?
Yes, members must live independently in one of the seven villages. Bay to Sound Neighbors offers services in Dennis and Yarmouth; Neighborhood Falmouth in Falmouth; and Nauset Neighbors in Brewster, Orleans, Harwich, Eastham, and Chatham.
Do you provide in-home services?
We offer assistance with small household services such as grocery shopping, organizing a closest or cupboard, and small repairs that do not require a professional license (e.g., plumbing, electrical). We do not provide housecleaning, laundry, meal preparation, snow removal, landscaping, or lawn services. We do not provide personal care or respite care services.
Will you drive members to locations off-Cape such as Plymouth or Boston?
We do not provide transportation off-Cape. We do provide transportation to locations beyond the Town of Barnstable (e.g., Yarmouth, Dennis, Falmouth) as long as the projected total time of service (round trip drive time and appointment duration) falls within our 2 hour guideline.
Do you provide medical transport?
To receive transportation services, a member must be able to get safely in and out of a volunteer’s personal vehicle with no/minimal assistance. If a member uses a wheelchair, they must be able to get in and out of the chair with no/minimal assistance. The wheelchair must be lightweight and foldable to fit into the volunteer’s vehicle.
We do not provide transportation for medical procedures that involve general anesthesia or conscious sedation.
